What are the days when one should fast during the month of Muharram?

Praise be to Allaah, Lord of the Universe. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sal-lal-lahu 'alaihi wa sal-lam, is His servant and messenger.
is not obliged to fast any day of Muharram, while the 'Ulama' (scholars) disagreed on whether it is obligatory to fast 'Ashura' [the tenth day of Muharram] before imposing Ramadan fasting or not, with two views. The scholar Ash-Shawkani, may Allah forgive him, said: "Ibn 'Abdul Bar forwarded the scholarly consensus about that now is not obliged to fast, but is recommended."
The evidence it is recommended that voluntary fasting in the month of Muharram is the following Hadith in which the Prophet, sal-lal-lahu 'alaihi wa sal-lam, said: "The best fasting after Ramadan is the month of Al Allah, (called) Al Muharram, and the best after the obligatory prayer is the volunteer of the night.
